Talk your Way Out of Limitations

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits” (Proverbs 18:21).

The power of creation is in your speech. If you allow the devil to tell you who you are, you have lost it. We were made in the image and likeness of God and are His creation. We are like God and we can create things like Him, by using our words. We have to talk our way out of every limitation. To talk means to express our feelings, to give information or to express ideas. Limitation means control, restriction or restraint which is similar to someone being in a cage.

The tongue can be used to heal or to build up and encourage. It can also be used to destroy by using negative words that can bring discouragement, pain or sorrow. Whatever is spoke over your life, you have the power to talk your way out of it. “So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire” (James 3:5)! Although the tongue is one of the smallest members of the body, it has the power to control our lives. Parents can at times speak negative words which can affect children throughout their lives. Words spoken over children can affect their self confidence.

Different generations use different ways of speaking and communicating and values change overtime. The life that we are living today, is often the consequences of words spoken. For example, if a mother told a child that they were an accident and that they did not intend to become pregnant, the child can grow up with insecurities. God has said, “before I formed you in the womb, I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5). God is our great creator, who created human beings. Even children at a young age will start to form words through babbling. We are created in the image of God, fearfully and wonderfully made. The devil will try to make us feel less beautiful or significant than others. We have to know that we are beautiful and made in the image of God.

Teachers in schools can speak negative words over children, that can affect their self confidence. Other people can speak negative words over our lives that can affect us. We have to choose what we listen to and reject negative words. God expects us to prophecy over our lives, concerning situations and conditions. We speak the word of God which is powerful and sharper than any two edged sword. The word of God is spirit and life, it is powerful and active. We can prophesy our way out of trouble and sickness. “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17).

I once had a major stroke and a Paramedic came to my home to attend to me. The Paramedic said that I had a major stroke and would never talk or walk again. My husband, declared that the spirit of infirmity would not stay within my body. On the way to the hospital, I started speaking Psalm 20, although my words were not audible. “May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you” (Psalm 20:1). The Paramedic heard me repeating the Psalm and told my husband that it was the side effects of the stroke. In my mind I was declaring that he was lying, because I was speaking the word of God. I was declaring that I would be healed and that God would restore me.

The word of God cannot return to him void. Our own words can cause harm, but the word of God is powerful. ““‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams” (Acts 2:17). If you don’t prophesy over your life, someone else will prophesy negatively. We need to prophesy our way into victory and allow the word of God to remain in us. The woman with the issue of blood, said to herself, that if she could touch the hem of Jesus’s garments, that she would be made well. She touched his garment, and she was healed.

In Ezekiel 37:1-10, God commanded him in a vision to speak to a valley of dry bones. As he prophesied over the bones, they came alive. “Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord” (Ezekiel 37:4).
